Within the needs of decreasing operating costs of WWTP is possible to utilize the energetic potential which is certainly hidden in biogas. It is produced in anaerobic digestion of municipal wastewater sludge and can meet most of the energy needs of the plant operation. Biogas is a valuable medium for creation a thermal energy and electricity.
Ferrmont has a rich experience with designing and building of gas management at many WWTPs. First is biogas accumulated in gasholder to eliminate nonconstant production during the day. The gasholders supplied by us are dry twomembrane gasholders. Due to modern design they allow to monitor the conditions inside the gasholders constantly. They are corrosion resistant, very safe and they maintain the operating pressure.
The biogas is preferably used as a fuel to produce electricity in cogeneration unit for the operation energy needs of plant and created heat for heating up the sludge in anaerobic digestion tank. Biogas can also be used for heat production in the boilers in boiler room and to heat the single site buildings at WWTP in the winter time. The excess biogas (e.g in the summer time) is burned in a gas burner .Biogas can be also used for a pneumatic mixing of anaerobic digestion tank.
